![]() In an exclusive interview with ONE Esports, HoYoverse discusses where Star Rail lies in the Honkai franchise and reveals the important character that connects HI3 and HSR.ĪRE YOU A BIG HONKAI AND HOYOVERSE FAN? CHECK THESE OUT:įull list of all HSR characters: Rarity, combat type, paths, release While both video games share the “Honkai” name and feature characters with similar appearance and names, HoYoverse, the game’s developer, has stated that HSR is not a direct successor to HI3 - the two games have distinct differences and should be appreciated as separate works, with the exception of one character. However, the relationship between Honkai Impact 3rd (HI3) and Honkai Star Rail (HSR) is more complex than that. You can chat with her about video games and anime on Twitter. When a new project shares the same name as its predecessor, it’s typically assumed to be a sequel. Although Haruko could use a little work in order to get her back to her even more eccentric self, pairing her with Kana's group should make for an interesting show. ![]() Its initial slice-of-life approach and transition into the lively FLCL anime I'd expect it to be prevents Alternative from feeling like a cheap imitation of the original, too. Alternative’s backgrounds are active and stylish, the characters are extra emotive, and, of course, the battle at the end is fast and exciting. ![]() The team at anime studio Production I.G seems to understand what made FLCL special, and their take on a sequel is promising. ![]() The first robotic foe has an incredible entrance, and the action that follows is just as fun to watch. power, or ability to call objects mentally through space, whether or not they’re lightyears away. Like the conflict with Medical Mechanica in the original, I expect Alternative to spin wildly out of control as Haruko taps into Kana’s N.O. Overarching political plotlines were heavily foreshadowed in the premiere. Still, the idea of her leading Kana and her friends into adulthood is awesome, and I hope the remaining five episodes will make good use of her. Perhaps it’s her casual entrance in Alternative or her giving the advice to the girls instead of brazenly manipulating them, but at this point I’m not quite convinced Haruko needs to be in Alternative. In case you forgot, Haruko is a special investigator for the Space Police Brotherhood who’s looking for Atomsk, the galaxy’s most powerful space pirate, and she’s pretty much willing to do anything to find him. Enter Haruko.Īs you’d expect, Haruko’s excitable behavior lends for great moments, but the guitar-wielding interstellar detective’s authenticity feels a little off. The episode is a little mundane though well-paced and entertaining before things get… well, FLCL. Their enthusiasm and energy remind of The Rolling Girl’s squad. Kana, Pets, Mossan, and Hijiri are an instantly charming group of girls who spend a majority of the first episode building a plastic bottle rocket as they intermittently discuss their future. Her wistfulness is relatable and stands out amongst her smart, confident, and capable friends.Īlternative’s lead cast is better developed in the premiere than most anime accomplish with one protagonist in their first three episodes. Unlike her three best friends who seem to have some idea of what they want to do, Kana still has her head in the clouds, wishing for a talking cat to appear and give her a magic wand. She plugs in her headphones and imagines doodles emphasizing and decorating the world around her. The opening scene features Kana walking to school, tapping away at a cracked smartphone. Instead of a melancholy but intense approach to growth, this season looks to showcase fading youth with a potentially more lighthearted tone. The Pillows may be back with great new music, but this first episode is far more grounded and a little less frantic with its animation than the original’s premiere, though nonetheless interesting. FLCL: Alternative “hands the series over to a totally different team of young creators who will redefine the meaning of ‘sequel,’” a press release stated, and it certainly feels that way.
