![]() ![]() There's almost no better sales tool for Lightspeed than putting a pair on your noggin and then watching your co-pilot play with his wad of wire spaghetti as he hooks in. Every CFI and pilot I've flown with is immediately drawn to the wireless feature, sparking almost immediate envious remarks. In the end, I'm very glad I bought the Tango versus other wired headsets. I shouldn't be wrapped up in superfluous stuff like this, but I can't help it. Even though the Tango is plastic, it's a nice matte gray with accents. STYLE: I know that Bose is the gold standard in aviation headsets, mainly because it's ATP-rated, but I'll be darned if the Lightspeed headsets aren't the dead sexiest of the bunch. Those are niggling issues, though, and have caused no actual problems for me. It's kind of bulky, the clip comes off fairly easily, and the direct connect cord kind of just dangles with no place to dock it. Every other aspect of the headset has been rock-solid, though I wish the remote unit were a little less wonky. Six months later, and having charged the unit at least three times a week (after every flight), I see no indication that it won't go the distance. That kind of discontinuity is rare, though.īUILD QUALITY: I remember reading early reviews in which some reviewers had expressed concern about the door hinge covering the battery. PERFORMANCE: There have only been a few instances that I feel that the communication between the remote unit and the headset is poor, but a quick power cycle and any problems are immediately resolved. And it eliminates all of the harsh prop and engine noise without drowning out the stall horn or even airflow.ĬOMFORT: I typically spend at least two hours and often as many as four with the headset on and it never becomes uncomfortable. I've never had a problem hearing my CFI, the tower, or other traffic. ![]() NOISE REDUCTION: What I can say is that for me the active noise reduction is perfect and is all that I need. I've had the Tango during my entire training period but, not having used other headsets-other than the junky headset I used on my intro flight-I can't compare the noise reduction to other headsets. I am a student pilot in the final stages of getting my PPL. (I am a sucker for a good giveaway.) However, regardless of the promotion or not, it was a good reminder to me to post a review of the product since I try to comment on products I either love or hate. First, I wasn't paid to give a positive review, but you may notice a flood of reviews this week since Lightspeed is encouraging owners like me to post a review in return for some free batteries.
